The use of ultraviolet (UV) radiation for disinfection is considered one of the safest and most natural methods. In fact, UV disinfection is not only recognized as a valuable and effective method but is also often used as a complement to other disinfection techniques. UV radiation is a pure disinfectant that leaves no residue and has extensive applications in the food industry, microbial population control, and maintaining microbial levels below hazardous thresholds. This non-ionizing radiation exists in different types, with its effects appearing in wavelengths between 250-270 nanometers. UV radiation can limit the growth of major pathogenic bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, Pseudomonas, Enterobacteriaceae, and especially Escherichia coli in food products.
